When someone has been determined to be qualified for a job, it means they have the credentials to do the work. When someone has been qualified for a race, it means their previous times have been sufficient to put them into the competition. For someone to qualify to win a prize they must have entered the contest according to the rules. Therefore, the idea of being qualified is to be suitable for or to be of an eligible status.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae he wrote
“(11) being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; (12) giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. (13) He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:11-14 ESV)
The Greek word translated “qualified” is “hikanosanti” (from “hikanoo”) and means “to make sufficient, render fit.” [source: Strong’s Lexicon] When it comes to our redemption, forgiveness, and deliverance from sin to life, it is God, through the Son, the sufficient means has been provided! We did not do it ourselves! Neither is it something we can do for one another! The thanks must be directed to the Father and the Son. Through Christ, we have been qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints. As God qualified the nation of Israel under the old covenant, so we have been qualified under the new in Christ. It is also in Him that all believers — whether Jew of Gentile — are brought together as one. (Ephesians 2:11-18)
Peter encouraged. . .
“(9) But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (10) Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (1 Peter 2:9-10 ESV)
By the blood of Jesus we have been consecrated and set apart as God’s people! Through the glorious work of our Savior on the cross, having been cleansed by His blood, we have been qualified to sainthood! His blood is sufficient to make it so!
Qualified in Christ we are equipped to do the works God established for us to do. (i.e. Ephesians 2:10; 2 Timothy 3:17) Qualified in Christ we are not just in the running, but assured the victor’s crown. (i.e. 2 Timothy 4:8; Romans 8:37) Qualified in Christ we are destined to receive the Heavenly prize. (Philippians 3:14) May we remain ever thankful to the Lord for providing what was impossible without such a gift! By the credentials of Christ we are a holy people who will inherit eternal life!
Have a great day THANKING GOD FOR QUALIFYING US AS HIS!
