I know what it means to walk with my wife and I enjoy it. We even still hold hands. However, walking with her means I must be mindful of slowing my usual pace so we can walk together. That is because it is called “walking with” not racing ahead of! Walking together is a wise thing in our relationship!

            Solomon noted. . .

                        (20) Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.(Proverbs 13:20 ESV)

I must admit there have been times when my wife’s wisdom has saved me. So glad we are together! However, let me ask, who is wiser than God? (i.e. 1 Corinthians 1:25) Are we remaining content in walking with God or are we running on ahead?

  John wrote. . .

                        (9) Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christdoes not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 9 ESV)

To walk with God means to be staying with Him; abiding in His Will rather than going our own way. How sad it was that as Jesus was teaching here on earth there were many who chose to no longer walk with Him. (John 6:66) If we are continuing to be in step with Him then we will accept and abide in His teaching.

We know that Enoch was the son of Jared (Genesis 5:18) and the father of the oldest man who ever lived; Methuselah who lived 969 years. (Genesis 5:27) Other than that we do not know much about his life. Still, what was said about his walking is significant where we read. . .

   (24) Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.(Genesis 5:24 ESV)

Having lived a life marked by walking with God, Enoch made it home into eternity with God; “God took him.”We too, by walking with God now, can trust in ultimately arriving in the Heavenly realm prepared for us. May our choice remain that of walking with Him, onward and upward to where He is leading!
