There are things in which we engage that are personal because we do them all by ourselves. However, there are also things in which we join with others that still have a personal aspect to them. One of those is our monetary giving in support of the work of the church. Though all do not give the same amount, collectively speaking, every individual gift counts in making up the whole that together meets the need.

As Paul encouraged those at Corinth to follow through in what they had committed to give in helping needy saints in Jerusalem, he stated. . .

 (11) So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have(12)For if the readiness is there, it isacceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. (2 Corinthians 8:11-12 ESV)

My giving is not to be compared to your giving, nor your giving to mine. Our giving is to be in relation to what we have. That should encourage us to know that God does not ask of us what is beyond our means. However, we are to honestly assess what we do possess. Therefore, may we maintain a readiness to do our individual part with what God has placed in our hands! That is the mark of acceptable giving!
